The Council on Internally Displaced Persons under the Zhytomyrska Oblast Military Administration has updated its composition and defined priorities: housing, social support, and establishing IDP councils in every community

On Wednesday, April 8, a meeting of the Council on Internally Displaced Persons under the Zhytomyrska Oblast Military Administration was held. During the meeting, the new composition of the Council was approved, key areas of work were outlined, and the creation of IDP councils in territorial communities was initiated.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Head of the Zhytomyrska Oblast Military Administration, Viktor Hradivskyi.

The discussion focused on rebooting the advisory body. The updated Council now consists of 20 members: 10 representatives from among internally displaced persons, 4 from civil society organizations, and 6 from structural units of the Oblast Military Administration. The next step will be the election of the Council’s leadership — the Chair, Deputy Chair, and Secretary — from among IDP representatives.

Another important topic was strengthening the network of IDP councils at the local level. Participants discussed the need to establish such councils in every territorial community across the region.

The Council also identified its priority areas of work. These include developing housing solutions for IDPs, in particular transforming temporary accommodation facilities into social dormitories and expanding the housing stock within communities.

Social support was also highlighted as a key priority, encompassing comprehensive assistance for internally displaced persons, including psychological support, professional retraining, and employment facilitation.

Zhytomyrska Oblast has provided shelter to more than 73,000 IDPs. The work of the Council on Internally Displaced Persons under the Zhytomyrska Oblast Military Administration aims to strengthen regional policy on the protection of IDP rights, as well as to support territorial communities in implementing effective solutions for the adaptation and integration of displaced people.
