Housing, Employment, and Reintegration: IDP Council in Drohobych Community Defines Its Priorities

On 12 May, the renewed Council on Internally Displaced Persons under the Executive Committee under the Drohobych City Council held its inaugural meeting in the Drohobych community, Lviv region. During the meeting, participants outlined the key priorities of the advisory body — supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in accessing housing, employment opportunities, and creating conditions for reintegration into the new community.

The renewed IDP Council consists of 19 members. Among them are 14 internally displaced persons, as well as representatives of civil society organisations working to protect the rights of displaced people and representatives of public authorities.

“Our shared task is to do everything possible to ensure that Ukrainians do not leave the country, but instead feel supported and have a home even in another community. That is why it is important for us to hear directly from you about your needs and challenges. We are systematically working to address housing issues: since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have been constructing new housing and adapting existing premises to provide people with a sense of safety. At the same time, in close cooperation with businesses, we are creating employment opportunities. Together, we must show that Ukraine needs its people for recovery and strengthening. I believe that together we will build a proactive team that will work towards the reintegration of Ukrainians,” said Drohobych Mayor Taras Kuchma, who attended the meeting of the IDP Council.

During the meeting, Denys Uvarov, Head of the previous convocation of the IDP Council, presented a report summarising the work of the advisory body over the past two years.

Following the discussion, the members voted for the new leadership of the IDP Council. As a result of the vote, Iryna Predeus was elected Chair of the Council, while Yevheniia Sorokina became its Secretary.
