The educational series “IDP Councils: From Adaptation to Influence” was unveiled in January 2025. This series was developed to support the work and development of IDP Councils. It serves as an essential tool for those striving to make communities more inclusive by involving displaced individuals in decision-making processes and aligning local policies with the needs of IDPs.
As of early 2025, Ukraine has over 4.6 million internally displaced persons, most of whom require support in their new communities. IDP Councils play a key role in representing the interests of displaced persons, protecting their rights, and facilitating their adaptation. This educational series was created to enhance their effectiveness.
What is this series about?
The series consists of eight expert-led episodes covering:
- Coordination and documentation of IDP Council activities;
- Development of operational and strategic plans;
- Data collection and analysis;
- Establishing effective communication, including via social media;
- Partnership collaboration and network building;
- Monitoring and development of local programs;
- Conducting advocacy campaigns;
- Evaluating the effectiveness of IDP Council operations.
By watching the series and completing the final test, participants can earn a certificate confirming their acquired knowledge.
Why is this important?
“Empowering IDP Councils is not just about providing knowledge but also equipping them with the tools for meaningful change. Who created the series?
The series was developed by the CO “CF “Stabilization Support Services” with financial support from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine for the Diia.Education platform.
Currently, more than 800 IDP Councils operate in Ukraine, serving as a powerful instrument for shaping new policies and programs at the local level. This series provides them with the necessary knowledge to work even more effectively.
