A meeting of the IDP Council under the Kyiv City Military Administration was recently held. Participants focused primarily on internally displaced people’s access to housing and opportunities for IDPs to participate in new preferential mortgage programmes.
“It is important for us that such meetings do not remain mere discussions. Our task is to obtain up-to-date information, understand support mechanisms and communicate this information to internally displaced people,” said Yaroslav Kildishov, Chair of the IDP Council.
Preferential Mortgage Lending for IDPs
Representatives of Ukrfinzhytlo PrJSC presented the IDP Council with a new state preferential mortgage programme that is planned to be implemented jointly with the World Bank. The discussion was attended by Yevhen Heiko, Head of the Alternative Products Development Department at Ukrfinzhytlo PrJSC, and Ivan Bushovskyi, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection and Client Relations Department at Ukrfinzhytlo PrJSC.
Following the meeting, a dedicated temporary working group established under the IDP Council will develop its own proposals for the programme. This will help take into account the needs and practical challenges faced by internally displaced people when seeking affordable housing.
How Can IDPs Document War-Related Damage?
The participants also discussed the possibility of submitting claims to the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Hanna Khrystova, Head of the Kyiv Office of the Register, spoke about the practical aspects of submitting claims and the importance of officially documenting lost property or housing. More than 26,000 such claims have already been submitted at the “YaMariupol” support centres for internally displaced people.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the information campaign on the opportunities to submit claims to the Register and to hold working meetings with representatives of relocated communities.
